John William Norwood

John William Norwood, 90, of Mt. Airy, MD passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at his home.

The beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth Norwood (nee Sager) for 59 years.

Born March 28, 1936, in Woodville, MD the son of the late Murhel William Norwood and the late Ruby L. Norwood (nee Baumgardner).

John was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an excellent carpenter and worked for Casey Company, then going on to work for the Department of Energy. John was a Deacon at Mt. Airy Full Gospel, was inducted into the Mt. Airy Hall of Fame, a member of the Mt. Airy Lions Club and was a member of the Mt. Airy Fire Department Auxiliary. He loved spending time on his motorcycle which he started riding at a young age until he gave it up when he turned 83.

Surviving in addition to his wife is his sister Marie Linthicum of Frederick, MD; his niece Yvonne Marie Miller and her children Tyler & Jessica; and his nephew Bryant Lee Linthicum & wife Jenny and his children Bryant William and Sara Joy.

John was preceded in death by his stepdaughter Vanessa Marie Norwood.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 10 AM to 12 Noon with funeral service starting at 12 Noon, at Mt. Airy Full Gospel Church 13949 Penn Shop Road Mt. Airy, MD 21771.

Interment at Prospect Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family ask for donations to be made to Mt. Airy Full Gospel Church.
