James "Steve" Steven Brown

James Steven “Steve” Brown L.C.S.W., 83 of Sykesville, MD passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at his home.

The beloved husband of Margaret S. Brown for 51 years.

Born April 9, 1942, in Takoma Park, MD the son of the late Geraldine Brown.

He graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology, then got his master’s in social work from The Catholic University of America in 1976.

Steve had a long career as a Social Worker as a Therapist, Group counseling, Emphasis on helping children in groups or individuals. He worked for many different companies including Family and Children Services of Central Maryland, Contractual therapist at Carroll County Mental Health, State of Maryland AIDS Administration, Bowling Brook Home for Boys and Family services of Cecil County as the Executive Director.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son Jeffrey S. Brown, his siblings Michael Brown and Janet Wilson, and his beloved dog Belle and cat Tucker.

Preceded in death by daughter Jean Holligan Roloff

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, at which time the Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:30 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A.
